The Center for Community Investment published a profile of New Economy Project, as part of its national series, Ecosystem Stewardship: Building the Infrastructure for Shared Ownership. The profile details our work to advance community ownership and systems change in New York City through organizing, coalition building, policy advocacy, non-extractive lending, technical and strategic support, and more.
The feature also includes a case study, prepared by Transform Finance, of the East New York Community Land Trust’s historic acquisition of 248 Arlington Ave—and the role our New Economy Loan Fund played to help catalyze the deal.
New Economy Project’s name reflects its long-term vision: transforming, rather than merely reforming, economic systems that are extractive and unjust. Through its broad-based coalitions and bold campaigns, the organization is working with communities to build the analysis, institutions, and collective power needed to imagine—and build—a solidarity economy rooted in racial justice, democratic control, and cooperation.
