Divest/Invest

Our municipal public banking campaign continues to gain serious momentum in New York. Last week, we organized a letter, signed by more than 100+ groups from all over New York State, calling for passage of the New York Public Banking Act. This groundbreaking legislation paves the way for NYC and other local jurisdictions to establish public banks with a clear public mandate to advance racial and economic justice. It’s time to divest from Wall Street banks, which are harming New Yorkers, New York neighborhoods and the planet–and invest in communities. Read more.


Hot off the Press

Our latest blog post puts a spotlight on the class action lawsuit we co-filed against the NYC Transit Authority, an arm of the MTA, charging violations of New Yorkers’ due process rights. The MTA’s collection practices harm Black and brown New Yorkers in particular, and are yet another way people are punished for being poor, as the MTA takes people’s state tax refunds to collect on old, alleged subway tickets.
