Action Alert: NYC Council to Vote on COPA TOMORROW! Call your Council Member

Huge news: the City Council is expected to vote on the Community Opportunity to Purchase Act (COPA) TOMORROW.

Here are two things you can do right now to help secure this major win for housing justice:

1. Call your council member and urge them to pass COPA! Click here to use our new call tool,
which will automatically dial your council member and Speaker Menin and provide a sample script.

2. Join us tomorrow (Thu, 10/22) at 3 pm for a massive rally on the steps of City Hall! RSVP at tinyurl.com/celebratecopa.

This breakthrough is six years in the making, with community land trusts, tenants, and community organizations taking on — and overcoming — the real estate lobby.

COPA will give communities a powerful tool to curb displacement and increase the supply of permanently affordable, community-controlled housing in Black and Brown neighborhoods. Qualified buyers, including community land trusts (CLTs) and other vetted nonprofits and joint ventures, will have a first opportunity to purchase certain multifamily buildings when they are up for sale.

Championed by a coalition of over 200+ community, tenant, and affordable housing groups, the bill has secured sponsorship by a strong majority of City Council members and the backing of Mayor Mamdani.

Let’s get COPA over the finish line!
